The Cantabile Choral Society was formed in 1981 for the purpose of supporting the activities of the Cantabile Singers of Truro. Originally led by founding conductor Jeff Joudrey, Ross Thompson assumed the role of conductor/artistic director in 1998 and continues in that capacity.
As outlined in the constitution of the choir, the Society’s mandate is:
- to provide a program of recreational choral singing
- to present choral concerts
- to promote and encourage choral singing in the broader community
Cantabile has performed for and served the community in a variety of ways over its history. It has collaborated with Symphony Nova Scotia, the Nova Scotia Choral Federation, the Nova Scotia Opera Association, as well as various other local, regional and national choirs.
In 2004 the Society began 'Choirs for Comfort', an annual fundraising concert involving many of Truro’s choirs.
In 2009 the Society began operating the Cantabile Boys Choir and the Spotlight Musical Theatre programs.
The Cantabile Choral Society is registered as a charitable organization with the Canada Revenue Agency, and welcomes donations from individuals and businesses who wish to support our work in the community.
